Canada Express Entry 2026: What UAE Residents Need to Know Right Now

We will tell you if you qualify for Immigration to Canada under Express Entry

Express Entry

Published: June 9, 2026 | By Nexus Migration

If you’re living in the UAE and dreaming of Canadian permanent residency, now is one of the most important times to pay close attention to Express Entry. Canada’s flagship immigration program has undergone significant changes in 2026 — and knowing what’s new could be the difference between getting that Invitation to Apply (ITA) or staying stuck in the pool.

What Is Canada Express Entry?

Express Entry is Canada’s points-based immigration management system for skilled workers. It governs three main programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Candidates receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, and the highest-ranked profiles receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency.

Key Express Entry Updates for 2026

1. New Priority Categories Launched

In February 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a major expansion of its category-based selection framework. New priority categories now include:

  • Medical Doctors with Canadian Work Experience — addressing critical physician shortages
  • Researchers with Canadian Work Experience — supporting Canada’s academic and innovation sectors
  • Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience — targeting leadership roles in high-growth industries
  • Transport Occupations — filling logistics and infrastructure gaps

These categories give candidates in these fields a direct invitation pathway — even if their overall CRS score isn’t at the top of the pool.

2. Work Experience Requirement Has Increased

For all renewed categories, IRCC has raised the minimum work experience requirement from six months to one year, earned within the previous three years. This applies whether the experience was gained in Canada or abroad. If you’re planning to apply, make sure your work history meets this updated threshold.

3. Regular Draws Continue — But Competition Is High

Canada continues to conduct regular Express Entry draws throughout 2026. As of early May 2026, IRCC issued 380 Invitations to Apply in a Provincial Nominee Program-specific draw, with a minimum CRS score of 798 points for that round. Meanwhile, across all draw types in 2026, IRCC had already issued approximately 58,830 invitations by early April — a strong signal that the system remains very active.

4. Major Structural Overhaul Coming — But Not Yet

Canada is also consulting on a fundamental restructuring of the Express Entry system — the most significant since the program launched in 2015. However, the regulatory process requires public consultations, Canada Gazette publication, and a transition period. Experts estimate the earliest implementation would be late 2027. The current system remains fully operational, and candidates should not delay submitting profiles.

What This Means for UAE Applicants

If you’re based in Dubai or anywhere in the GCC, here’s your action plan:

  • Submit your Express Entry profile now. Do not wait for future changes — they are years away.
  • Check if your occupation falls under a priority category. Healthcare, research, management, and transport professionals should explore category-based draws immediately.
  • Improve your CRS score. Higher IELTS/PTE scores, Canadian educational credentials, and valid job offers all add points.
  • Consider Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Provinces like Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Atlantic Canada offer targeted immigration streams with lower CRS thresholds.
