According to a new Statistics Canada report, Canada has more millennials than baby boomers for the first time ever. With millennials now constituting 23% of the population, there has been a notable shift in demographics.
The surge in immigration, both temporary and permanent, is mostly to blame for this shift. Between July 2022 and July 2023, the number of millennials increased by 457,354.
Remarkably, immigration caused Canada’s average age to fall from 41.7 to 41.6 during this time, the first reduction since 1958.
A December 2023 study revealed that 96% of Canada’s population gain between July and December 2023 was attributable to immigration, demonstrating the significant role that immigration has had in the country’s population expansion.
According to data from 2022, immigrants make up 23% of all Canadians, the bulk of whom are under 65 and a sizable part of them are in their core working years, which are between 25 and 64. These patterns demonstrate how important immigration is in determining the demographics and economics of Canada.
