Canada welcomed a record 471,550 new permanent residents in 2023, topping the previous high of 437,000. Furthermore, a large number of temporary foreign workers and international students are non-permanent residents who contribute to Canada’s population.
A large proportion of these non-permanent residents—22% of all immigrants in Canada—arrive in the country between the ages of 20 and 24.
With over a million active study permits recorded in 2023—a 29% increase from the previous year—this demographic includes a large number of overseas students.
Furthermore, the latest report from Statistics Canada showed that the population growth rate for those aged 30-34 is 6.4%, which is double the 2.9% population growth rate for the entire population.
These patterns show that Canada is becoming a more appealing destination for those looking for chances for both temporary and permanent residency.
